What is TESOL?

TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.   This term covers two other common
acronyms, ESL and EFL.   ESL means English as a Second Language and refers to people who learn English
within an English speaking country.  EFL means English as a Foreign Language and refers to people who
learn English in a country where English is not widely spoken.   

What kind of jobs are available in the TESOL field?

There are many different professional opportunities in this field.  The most common job is that of an English
language teacher.   Such teachers might work in schools, universities, or private language institutes.     The
demand for TESOL professionals is quite high in all parts of the world.   In addition to English teaching jobs,
there are also opportunities to work as textbook developers, as consultants for small and large corporations, or
as presenters on television, radio, or internet English programs.
